Bring your first library

Import your book export, review the counts, and find your books.

Manage libraries in a synthetic account, with Import and New library controls.
Manage libraries is the starting point for a library import. All screenshots use synthetic local fixtures.

Start with the right file

Import accepts Lektava JSON, Goodreads CSV, LibraryThing tab-delimited text (TSV), CLZ Books CSV and Libib collection CSV. Keep your original file. These are fixed formats, with no column mapper. Use UTF-8 text and keep the original headers. For CLZ, include Title, Author (or Authors), ISBN and Collection Status; XML is not supported.

Open Manage libraries from More on a phone or from the sidebar on a larger screen. Choose Import and select the export file.

Review before confirming

The preview describes the library and its contents before anything is imported. Check the detected source, counts and omitted-field warnings, then choose Import library. Supported shelves/tags and reading states are kept. Explicitly private notes/comments, covers, loans, extra copies, prices and full reading histories are not imported. Unknown reading states remain unread; repeated ISBNs retain only the first ISBN while keeping each title. The import runs as a background job; follow its progress in Background jobs before trying again.

If some books are waiting

Free reads the whole file and saves only the books that fit the owner's remaining allowance. Book capacity is shared across all libraries you own. The waiting notice is a count, not a stored copy of the omitted books.

After making room or changing plan, remove the earlier imported library before importing the original file again. Each import creates a new library and does not merge with earlier imports. Dismissing the notice does not import them. You can always export the books already saved.
